Kailash Satyarthi NGO 'rescues' 10 tribal girls from human trafficking net in Delhi

The Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), founded by Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, and the Government of India agency, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), with the help of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) and the Delhi police, have rescued 10 minor tribal girls aged between 13 and 17 years from an illegally run placement agency in North Delhi.
All the girls were trafficked from West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on the promise of gainful employment.
Five persons have been identified as involved in trafficking the tribal girls. An FIR has been registered against two “unnamed” accused persons, even as the police is investigating the involvement of the other three accused.
The accused group has been in operation for almost 10 years. Detailed medical examination has been conducted on the girls. They have been produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Manish Sharma, director BBA, said, “Our organization has been vocal against the illegal activities run by the placement agencies that traffic innocent children from vulnerable families”.
He added, “We urge the government to legislate appropriate law that criminalizes the illegal activities of such placement agencies”.
