Well-known political activists have accused Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and the BJP-Sangh Parivar of indulging in politics of hate by giving communal colour to an incident of arson in Bhadeethi village of Saraikhwaja police station area of Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh.
A joint statement by Lok Morcha convenor Ajit Singh Yadav and Magsaysay awardee Sandeep Pandey, vice-president, Socialist Party (India), said, there is no truth in the police version, according to which 300 people from the Muslim community attacked the Harijan colony and set it ablaze.
The statement says, only 8-10 youth are seen in the video of the incident that has gone viral. Their dresses do not look like they are Muslims. In the video, a man is heard confessing that the act of setting fire the colony. Yet, police registered crime against more than 150 persons, many of them unnamed, rounding up 38.
“Apparently, the Sangh Parivar and BJP, backed by the Chief Minister have used it as an opportunity for the politics of polarization by giving the matter a communal colour”, the statement notes, claiming, information received from the ground suggests, the actual incident took place on June 9, when some boys from the Muslim side went to the Harijan colony of the Bhadeethi village, and a dispute arose.
As the dispute escalated, the two sides clashed and started fighting. In this, six boys from the Muslim side and three boys from Harijan side were seriously injured. The family admitted the injured to hospital for treatment.
