Desperation? Home ministry notice on Rahul Gandhi's "British" citizenship a big joke

By Vidya Bhushan Rawat*
The notice  sent to Congress president Rahul Gandhi on the citizenship issue is a big joke, and it is shocking that the Ministry of Home has dragged itself into a case dismissed by the Supreme Court. After 1990, when Sonia Gandhi became president of the Congress, she was targeted for not being Indian, apart from so many other things.
In fact, when the Congress and UPA came to power in 2004, BJP and its RSS devotees made every effort to stop Sonia from becoming the Prime Minister, but her act of not taking the leadership directly took away the issue from the Sangh Parivar. If we see the way she was mocked and joked, it showed how racist and petty minded are Sangh Parivar and its chelas.
Rahul Gandhi has been a member of Parliament since 2004. He is the son of a former Prime Minister, grandson of a former Prime Minister and greatgrandson of the first Prime Minister of India. His grandmother was assassinated and so was his father. Where and why is the need for him to become the British citizen? If he is or was, then the Government of India can very much seek response from the British government.
I mean, this case does not need to dragged so much in public that it become joke itself. Why is the government waking up right now when we are in the middle of the elections. How shamelessly this government is using the authority is well known, and those institutions who we consider essential for the the survival of democracy have failed us miserably.
This issue has gone to the Ethics Committee of Parliament. It was taken by none other than Subramanyam Swamy, a hero of India's Brahmanical classes. Swamy is being provided all the ammunition and farce material to keep on attacking. The strategy of this government is to keep the Gandhis busy with different court cases. Swamy's job is to look at the balancesheet and other details of Gandhis which are very much in public domain and file cases against them without even being questioned on the legitimacy of those issues.
If the Brahmanical classes in India feel that the farcical Swamy is their hero, then it shows their pathetic condition. Swamy is a pathological liar and a non-serious person, but he enjoyed immunity under this government. He was legitimised as an 'intellectual' by the savarna classes. His targets are Dalits, backwards, Muslims, Christians, and Gandhis.
He picks up target, makes false cases, enjoys his vast following in the media, who jump up every time he speak up things because media and politicians can't say things which Swamy speaks, as he remains unaccountable, and though as a political maverick he is clever, he failed to find space in Modi's cabinet. Swamy still considers himself as the Prime Ministerial material. Many of his bhakts feel that he could be the best prime minister India ever had.
It is ironical that a government which is giving so much emphasis on NRIs and PIOs that it wants them to not only vote in the elections but also contest, is making so much of noise on this issue. My point is, why this government is seeking to take everything to media? Why can't it really get answers from its counterparts from UK or elsewhere?
We know till May 19, we will see many such desperate moves, which are visible on the face of the "supreme" leader. The government will act on these issues and give media its daily dose of agenda.
The aim is to keep the issues related to integrity of the opposition, particularly the Congress, debated on their prime time. Now, enough interviews have been given and people have got bored, so what next? This is a well-planned strategy of the Shah-Modi duo, which does not want to answer any questions related to their governance of the last five years.
The advisors and the "supreme" leader feel he is doing a wonderful work, but the fact is Modi's actions are only helping his opponents both in and outside the party, and they will use the same techniques against him when he is not in power. That time, the Jaitleys, Ravi Shankars and Sambit Patras will not be useful. For Subrahmanyam Swamy, he knows how to keep himself busy with such issues, and probably bring new issues about incapability of these leaders in the party.
People must vote. They must ask questions. Citizenship issue can be settled by courts. Let Rahul Gandhi's lawyers give answer to the Ministry of Home. The bhaktmandali in the TV studios may sing another song, as it cannot bring back smiles on the faces of their "supreme" leader. They need to show work of the government during last five years and not personal issues of the opposition.
