About 100 delegates of social organizations of Kangra and Dharamshala districts of Himachal Pradesh observed one-day fast and held a public meeting demanding that Ganga and other rivers from Himalayas continued flowing uninterrupted.
Supporting Swami Atmabodhanand, on fast in Uttarakhand to save Ganga for more than 100 days, a senior participant, environmentalist Kulbhushan Upmanyu, said, "All the 54 dams proposed on Ganga and its tributaries should be banned. Pollution in the lower plains of Ganga is growing, illegal sand mining and large scale deforestation continues. There is a need to strengthen the protection of the catchment area of Ganga basin. Ganga Act should be passed by the government for this at the earliest."
