American focus on one community for the scourge of radicalization is no less radical

By Adv Masood Peshimam*
U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Hely expressing sadness over the death of Palestinian protestors said that U.N. is to play more active role in diffusing the crisis as she opined that the volatile situation would escalate farther. It’s not understood as to how the U.N. can play the active role in diffusing the Israeli-Palestinian crisis when the United States blocked a draft U.N. security council statement urging restraint and calling for an investigation of clashes on the Gaza-Israel border that left 16 dead.
Kuwait which represented the Arab countries on the council presented the proposed statement which called for an “independent and transparent investigation” of the violence. The draft council statement also expressed grave concern at the situation at the border “And it reaffirmed the right to peaceful protest” and expressed the council’s “sorrow at the loss of innocent Palestinian lives”.
The draft statement was circulated to the Council but the U.S. raised objections and said it did not support its adoption. The proposed statement also called “for respect for International Human Rights law and International Humanitarian Law, including protection of civilians”. The Council members called on the sides to exercise restraint and prevent further escalation.
The U.S. opposition to the draft statement and blocking the same is a shocking gesture in a bid to appease Israel. The U.S. expressing dismay over the death of the protestors and stagnate the draft is contradiction in itself. The U.S. vetoing the statement by UNSC on Gaza hit is to support Israel killing the Palestinians thus exacerbating their predicament.
The aim of the protest was to assert what Palestinians regard as their right to return to towns and villages from which their families fled or were driven out when the state of Israel was created in 1948.
Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas said the Israeli authorities bore the responsibility for the deaths.
U.N. secretary general Ant-Anio Gutress called for an independent inquiry into the deaths and the U.N. security council condemned the violence. U.N. deputy political affairs secretary Taye-Brook Zerothoun told the council: Israel must uphold its responsibility under International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.
The U.S. obstructing the U.N resolution denouncing the Israeli aggression is to provide the cover to the Israel aggression and justifying the Israel Government latching on to the politics of victimizing the victims of the occupation of the Palestinian land. The U.S. is to husband the Israeli aggression thus showing boot to the U.N.O.
It’s a crying shame that U.S has always made it a point to play U.N.O puppet to the U.S. The U.S is the worst offender making U.N. toe the American line thus explaining the failure of U.N. The U.S many a time not only created the impediments in implementation of the U.N. resolutions but in its war game managed to pass the resolutions in the U.N. to serve its vested interest.
Instances galore. The glaring example is Saddam’s Iraq which was accused of possessing the weapons of mass destruction. With the story set afloat the resolutions were passed in the Security Council censuring Iraq for possessing the weapons of mass destruction. The sensitivity of the world was stirred against Saddam’s Iraq particularly Muslim and Arab world. It was the manufactured evidence flaunted by Colin Powell at the United Nations to condemn Saddam Hussain and Justify an invasion. The coalition force was formed to invade Iraq comprising several nations including Arab and Muslim. The U.S went on flexing its muscle against helpless Iraq with the support of the coalition forces which culminated into the humiliating defeat of Iraq. With the war over the suspected sites were inspected and the story of Saddam Hussain possessing the weapons of mass destruction was found to be fabricated and planted. Britain’s Tony Blaire apologized but U.S. does not know the gentleman’s behavior.
It’s the same U.S. which immensely helped in promoting the creation of Taliban to destroy former Soviet Union. The Taliban had their share in breaking up the former Russian empire. Once the Russians left Afghanistan, U.S. lost no time in entering the Afghan soil making the landlocked country a vulnerable victim. The same Taliban nurtured by the U.S. became the bone of contention. The Taliban got the tag of extremism. Extremism is not at all acceptable and quite harmful to the larger interest of the society.
While condemning radicalization, Islam is brought into the picture. Concern is shown over the radical Islam. While there is no justification to radicalization, the fact also remains that Islam is moderate when it serves the western or American interest. Islam turns radical when it does not serve the American or western interest. It all depends on the exigencies of the situation. The fact also remains that radicalization cannot be restricted to one group of people or one community. Focus on one community for the scourge of radicalization is no less radical. Those living in glass houses must bear the barrage of criticism of radicalization.
While discussing the violent turbulence of Middle East the role of Iran cannot be brushed aside. Iran instead of making efforts to promote peace particularly in Palestine-Israel conflict zone has added fuel to the fire with its backing of Basharul Assad regime along with Russia in its incessant bombing campaign against the defenseless people of Syria triggering worst ever refugee crisis. What sort of Islamic revolution is this which is supporting the spread of ferocious terror against the defenseless people of Syria by Basharul Asad regime along with Russia.
There is the constant massive assault over Syria by Asad’s forces supported by Iran in the name of combating rival Syrian forces. What sort of Islamic Revolution is this which is killing the fellow Muslims.
On the other hand, U.S. is also resorting to sustained bombing over Syria in the name of annihilating the Daesh. Ultimately the Syrians are bearing the brunt of all.
That apart Saudi Arabia is more concerned with Iran developing the nuclear muscle then restraining Israel from perpetrating worst ever atrocities over the helpless and weak Palestinians through diplomatic and Political means. Saudi Arabia and Iran locked into an eye ball to eye ball are quite insensitive to the worsening plight of the Palestinians. Saudis fearing the Iranian threats are totally depending on U.S. which makes it toe the American line. In the teeth of escalating crisis in the conflicting zone of Palestine-Israel it’s a job of the U.N. to facilitate the cessation of hostilities between Palestinians and Israelis but U.S. has made U.N. its tool to serve its own interests whose credibility is at stake.
U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley’s talking of the role of U.N. in diffusing the Gaza crisis is only a public relations gimmick suggesting no seriousness.

Beyond his riding skill, Karl Umrigar was admired for his radiance, sportsmanship, and affability

By Harsh Thakor*  Karl Umrigar's name remains etched in the annals of Indian horse racing, a testament to a talent tragically cut short. An accident on the racetrack at the tender age of nineteen robbed India of a rider on the cusp of greatness. Had he survived, there's little doubt he would have ascended to international stature, possibly becoming the greatest Indian jockey ever. Even 46 years after his death, his name shines brightly, reminiscent of an inextinguishable star. His cousin, Pesi Shroff, himself blossomed into one of the most celebrated jockeys in Indian horse racing.

Aurangzeb’s last will recorded by his Maulvi: Allah shouldn't make anyone emperor

By Mohan Guruswamy  Aurangzeb’s grave is a simple slab open to the sky lying along the roadside at Khuldabad near Aurangabad. I once stopped by to marvel at the tomb of an Emperor of India whose empire was as large as Ashoka the Great's. It was only post 1857 when Victoria's domain exceeded this. The epitaph reads: "Az tila o nuqreh gar saazand gumbad aghniyaa! Bar mazaar e ghareebaan gumbad e gardun bas ast." (The rich may well construct domes of gold and silver on their graves. For the poor folks like me, the sky is enough to shelter my grave) The modest tomb of Aurangzeb is perhaps the least recognised legacies of the Mughal Emperor who ruled the land for fifty eventful years. He was not a builder having expended his long tenure in war and conquest. Towards the end of his reign and life, he realised the futility of it all. He wrote: "Allah should not make anyone an emperor. The most unfortunate person is he who becomes one." Aurangzeb’s last will was re...

How the slogan Jai Bhim gained momentum as movement of popularity and revolution

By Dr Kapilendra Das*  India is an incomprehensible plural country loaded with diversities of religions, castes, cultures, languages, dialects, tribes, societies, costumes, etc. The Indians have good manners/etiquette (decent social conduct, gesture, courtesy, politeness) that build healthy relationships and take them ahead to life. In many parts of India, in many situations, and on formal occasions, it is common for people of India to express and exchange respect, greetings, and salutation for which we people usually use words and phrases like- Namaskar, Namaste, Pranam, Ram Ram, Jai Ram ji, Jai Sriram, Good morning, shubha sakal, Radhe Radhe, Jai Bajarangabali, Jai Gopal, Jai Jai, Supravat, Good night, Shuvaratri, Jai Bhole, Salaam walekam, Walekam salaam, Radhaswami, Namo Buddhaya, Jai Bhim, Hello, and so on. A soft attitude always creates strong relationships. A relationship should not depend only on spoken words. They should rely on understanding the unspoken feeling too. So w...

Incarcerated for 2,424 days, Sudhir Dhawale combines Ambedkarism with Marxism

By Harsh Thakor   One of those who faced incarceration both under Congress and BJP rule, Sudhir Dhawale was arrested on June 6, 2018, one of the first six among the 16 people held in what became known as the Elgar Parishad case. After spending 2,424 days in incarceration, he became the ninth to be released from jail—alongside Rona Wilson, who walked free with him on January 24. The Bombay High Court granted them bail, citing the prolonged imprisonment without trial as a key factor. I will always remember the moments we spent together in Mumbai between 1998 and 2006, during public meetings and protests across a wide range of issues. Sudhir was unwavering in his commitment to Maoism, upholding the torch of B.R. Ambedkar, and resisting Brahmanical fascism. He sought to bridge the philosophies of Marxism and Ambedkarism. With boundless energy, he waved the banner of liberation, becoming the backbone of the revolutionary democratic centre in Mumbai and Maharashtra. He dedicated himself ...

State Human Rights Commission directs authorities to uphold environmental rights in Vadodara's Vishwamitri River Project

By A Representative  The Gujarat State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC) has ordered state and Vadodara municipal authorities to strictly comply with environmental and human rights safeguards during the Vishwamitri River Rejuvenation Project, stressing that the river’s degradation disproportionately affects marginalized communities and violates citizens’ rights to a healthy environment.  The Commission mandated an immediate halt to ecologically destructive practices, rehabilitation of affected communities, transparent adherence to National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders, and public consultations with experts and residents.   The order follows the Concerned Citizens of Vadodara coalition—environmentalists, ecologists, and urban planners—submitting a detailed letter to authorities, amplifying calls for accountability. The group warned that current plans to “re-section” and “desilt” the river contradict the NGT’s 2021 Vishwamitri River Action Plan, which prioritizes floodpla...

CPM’s evaluation of BJP reflects its political character and its reluctance to take on battle against neo-fascism

By Harsh Thakor*  A controversial debate has emerged in the revolutionary camp regarding the Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s categorization of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Many Communists criticize the CPM’s reluctance to label the BJP as a fascist party and India as a fascist state. Various factors must be considered to arrive at an accurate assessment. Understanding the original meaning and historical development of fascism is essential, as well as analyzing how it manifests in the present global and national context.
